Black Lives Matter is a movement that is originated by African-Americans. Black Lives Matter is against violence and racism towards black people. Police brutality is one of several forms of police misconduct which involves violence by police. Police brutality is also a part of why Black Lives Matter exist, because it is going on in many countries. While although illegal, it can be used under the color of law. Black Lives Matter was developed to protect black people from the brutality of the police toward African-American people.
Black Lives Matter is the fight with all other races that is against violence and racism towards black people. Police brutality is a big part of why black lives matter should keep doing what they are doing, because of the crimes the police are committing towards black people. These crimes are wrong and they need to stop. In Sacramento, California police violence predicts Black Lives Matter protests. On March 18, 2018, a young Black man named Stephon Clark was killed by police in my hometown of Sacramento, California. He was unarmed, standing in the backyard of his grandmother’s home, and he was shot eight times (Williamson, 2018). It is an organization created to uplift black people and communities, and raise awareness of police brutality, discrimination, and racism. All the while encouraging black people to stand up for their freedom and dignity.
The Black Lives Matters organization who work with everyday people, members see and understand significant gaps in movement spaces and leadership. Black liberation movements in the United States have created room, space, and leadership mostly for Black heterosexual, cisgender men; leaving women, queer and transgender people, and others either out of the movement or in the background to move the work forward with little or no recognition. (BLM, para #).
Black Lives Matter has been described as not your grandfather’s civil-rights movement, to distinguish its tactics and its philosophy from those of nineteen-sixties-style activism. Cobb, Jelani Cobb. While Black Lives Matter has shaped the dialogue surrounding race and criminal justice in this country, it has also sparked a debate about the limits of protest, particularly of online activism. Meanwhile, internal disputes have raised questions about what the movement hopes to achieve, and about its prospects for success. Black activists have organized in response to police brutality for decades, but part of the reason for the visibility of the current movement is the fact that such problems have persisted and, from the public’s perspective, at least, have seemed to escalate during the first African-American Presidency (Cobb,).
The movement has been wildly misunderstood partly because of how it’s caricatured and demonized by the movement has been wildly misunderstood partly because of how it’s caricatured and demonized by right-wing media. The murder of a police officer Miosotis Familia murdered for being a black cop ( Daily Kos, 2018). It’s a movement to expand civil rights for the oppressed in American society. It’s a peaceful protest against oppression. There’s simply no equivalence between Black Lives Matter and a hate group. People are responding to the movement being shut out of federal conversations by taking action on the local level. That means engaging with lawyers to defend those who are stopped by police, shutting down highways to force attention on issues of racial justice, raising awareness of the problems and potential solutions and creating safe spaces where black people can feel affirmed (Tour©, p. 233). In difference between The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and Black Lives Matter is that NAACP is more about biracial endeavor to advance justice for African Americans while, black lives matter is about being against violence and systemic racism towards black people.
Emantic Fitzgerald Bradford, Jr. a former military officer, was shot and killed by a police man because he was black. There were gunshots around the mall Bradford was at, and when he pulled out a gun to protect the people in the building, the police shot him. The police officers did not say why they shot him, or how he was threat to them, but the police officer did not go to jail for his actions. The National Rifle Association did not respond to requests for comment in December 2018, after Mr. Roberson was killed, or on Monday about Mr. Bradford’s death. Mr. Bradford’s parents, accused the officer of opening fire within milliseconds of encountering Mr. Bradford and without issuing verbal commands,If you happen to be black, police see you as a criminal and they shoot and kill you, said Mr. Crump from CNN. That has been shown in Chicago, and now here in Birmingham, Alabama, which is the epicenter of the civil rights movement (Nytimes.com, 2018).
Another situation that calls for the attention of BLM is when officers confronted Sterling Brown in January of 2017 because he was parked between two handicapped spots. Officers pinned Brown to the ground and subdued him with the Taser because they thought he moved. (HuffPost UK, 2018)
This is why black lives matter should keep doing what they’re doing. The crimes the police, racist, and colorist people are committing towards black people are wrong and this needs to stop. This conclusion paragraph needs to be longer.
