*”Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming, highly-anticipated releases*
This week, I’m waiting on the sequel to an early 2016 book I just ADORED. I remember I almost didn’t buy into the hype of Truthwitch but then I was lucky enough to pick up a copy from the Indigo Teen team when they were at Yonge & Dundas Square handing out books. Before we get to why exactly I’m waiting for this book, here’s a bit about it.
Author: Susan Dennard
Publisher: Tor Teen
Publication Date: January 10, 2017
About: The follow-up to New York Times bestselling Truthwitch, next in a breathtaking YA fantasy series hailed by Alexandra Bracken as “a world you will want to inhabit forever.”
On a continent ruled by three empires, some are born with a “witchery,” a magical skill that sets them apart from others.
In this follow-up to New York Times bestselling Truthwitch, a shadow man haunts the Nubrevnan streets, leaving corpses in his wake—and then raising those corpses from the dead. Windwitch continues the tale of Merik—cunning privateer, prince, and windwitch.
Why I’m excited
Truthwitch grabbed me right from the start. I loved every second reading it. I also loved the girlmance (my word for bromance for females). Iseult and Safi are both so badass but still lean heavily on one another. It’s the kind of pure female friendship that I love to see in YA. No cattiness, no Mean Girls type sketchy stuff. Just “you need me, I’ve got you.”
Also, cool magic and sea foxes. Yes, please. And hunky book boyfriends. Truthwitch had all my favourite things and I can’t wait to see what Susan has in store for book 2!
