Summary: Logan Knight is a real life knight in shining armor.
A detective godsend in a sleek black suit has me thinking less than secretive thoughts. Brooding and mysterious, he’s the kind of guy every girl instantly notices. Between his seductive smirk and charming good looks, it’s no wonder I can’t help the way he makes me feel whenever I’m near him.
Too bad he’s unavailable—or so he says.

He thinks I’m a do-gooder who shouldn’t get involved with a guy like him. His past is messy and relationships just add to that. He insists the timing is all wrong and he’s devoted to his career, but I don’t buy that excuse for a second. I see the way his body tenses and his jaw ticks every time another guy is around me. He just won’t admit it, but I’m more determined than ever to show him what he’s missing.

I’m a devoted animal rescuer and I’ll risk everything to save them, but when a dramatic turn of events puts both our lives at risk, I’m positive Logan will write me off for good. But when he asks for my help with a personal crisis, I know it’s my last chance to finally show him I can handle anything he throws my way—messy past and all.

He might think he has me all figured out, but I’ll prove him wrong no matter what he thinks. This game of push and pull has me running in circles. One wrong move and we could both lose. (Goodreads)

Favourite Quotes:

“Excuse me while I cringe at another unsolicited dick pic.” (LOL this is scary true to modern dating life)

Review:

*I received a copy of this book from the authors in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion.*

What the hell, K&F?! Travis was supposed to be my one true love and I was going to steal him from Viola…how could you give me a new favourite man? Actually, this has somehow replaced This is War as my favourite Checkmate book too. The tag-line, “Dogs, Donuts, and Logan Knight”, pretty much sums up how I fell in love with this story so much so quickly.

It’s a Checkmate book so of course we see Travis, Viola, Drew, and Courtney along with the new couple. I feel like this crew is my actual friend group at this point because I’ve been through so many books with them. As I mentioned, however, I have a special new love for Logan. He’s so sweet…and stubborn…and rugged…and dreamy. Seeing his POV in terms of his feeling towards Kayla and how he is with everyone on a daily basis made me warm up to him a lot more than I had from his appearances in the previous books. Kayla is also adorable and I kinda want to be her bestie now. I love how determined she is and how much passion she has for all the things she does in her life. The way they dealt with Maggie’s story line in This is Dangerous was also amazing. Although she’s a secondary character she received the royal treatment and I’m glad she wasn’t really vilified (which often happens to characters in her role).

After all the drama in Courtney and Drew’s stories, Logan and Kayla seem pretty tame but it was a nice switch up. The pace was just right and it had just enough going on to keep me intrigued and wanting to know more all the time. There are also lots of puppies, donut shops, cute moments, and cute banter which are 3 key ingredients to romances that make me squeal audibly. Oh and if you like Christmas, Kayla is your girl! She had me considering a Christmas in July party of my own. Finally, in true “book 1 by Kennedy Fox” fashion, there is a wicked cliffhanger at the end that has me wishing September weren’t so far away.

Final Verdict:

My new personal motto is now “Dogs, Donuts, and Logan Knight”. That is all. Oh and go buy This is Dangerous. 😉
