If you know me or follow me on social media, you’ve probably seen me screaming into the Internet void about Kennedy Fox and/or their books. I found them in the winter and I’m at the point now where I can’t really remember a time without this series.

Logan and Kayla’s story/love was my favourite of the three and This is Dangerous killed me with the classic Kennedy Fox Book 1 Cliffhanger. I have been eagerly awaiting This is Beautiful to see how things play out for Layla.

I think this is the first time K&F had me literally on the verge of tears. I felt them forming in my eyes at certain parts and was positive I’d make a fool of myself and bawl my eyes out on the subway. I adore all the Checkmate books but this one hit me particularly hard. I really felt the suffering of both Logan and Kayla as they dealt with the aftermath of what happened in This is Dangerous and my feels stood no chance.

As I’ve become accustomed to, I really felt connected to all the characters and super invested in their lives as if they were my real life friends. I also loved my book pets in this one as it lived up to the “Dogs, Donuts, and Logan Knight” slogan it spawned.

The ending for this couple was not only perfect for them but also for the series as a whole. The moment the HEA started forming was beautiful, the friendships and relationships were squee-inducing, and the final state of all 3 couples’ lives was overall really satisfying! I’m so sad the Checkmate Duets are over but I’m so happy with how they ended. PLUS…we have books on the Bishop brothers to look forward to! 😍
